Why Presbyterians Believe In Infant Baptism

What Does It Mean To Be Reformed?

The Gospel Of Judas? Historical But Still False

All Presbyterian denominations are the same and there is no difference between the Presbyterian Church USA and the Presbyterian Church in America.

No, there are actually quite a few different denominations that are Presbyterian. We belong to the Presbyterian Church in America, which was founded in 1973, by those who had a desire to return to the biblical truths of this historic faith. Some of the oldest denominations in America are Presbyterian, but many have drifted away from the historic truths of the Protestant Reformation. The PCA is a denomination that has returned to the truths of Scripture.

We have no affiliation with the Presbyterian Church USA, but pray that they would return to the truths of Scripture.

Presbyterians believe that when babies are baptized they are saved.

No, we do not. We believe that salvation comes only by faith in Christ, which is a gift from God and not of ourselves (Ephesians 2:8-10). We are not saying that children are saved when we baptize them, but that they are a part of the covenant-keeping community. They have becomes members of the community by taking on the sign of the covenant, just as the male infants of the Old Testament were circumcised, all infants of the body of Christ are to be baptized into the community. Please see the paper on this issue, by clicking here.

Presbyterians do not believe in the Bible. They see the Bible is nothing more than a collection of stories, myths and fables.

This is only true for those who would consider themselves liberal in their theology. The Presbyterian Church in America was founded on the principle of the Bible being the only authority by which man can be saved. Our Larger Catechism reads: "The Scriptures principally teach, what man is to believe concerning God, and what duty God requires of man."

We see the entire Bible as the full counsel of God, and in it we find what it is that truly glorifies God, and the things necessary for man's salvation. There is no other authority but Scripture alone. The truths of Scripture are either expressly stated, or are found by good and necessary consequence and may be deduced from Scripture.

When we come to Scripture, we don't come as authorities determining what truth is to be found there, because we are also dependent upon the illuminating work of the Holy Spirit. Apart from God's Spirit opening the mind of man to these truths, then we would understand nothing.

The PCA and members churches ordain women and homosexuals as pastors.

Again, this is not true. We ordain only those who meet the qualifications found in 1 Timothy 3:1-7. Ordination is for men only, and only those who are living lives of repentance and humility. Since homosexuality is a sin, men who practice this are not qualified to be pastors, elders, deacons or even Sunday school teachers. We hold to the same practice for those men who are living in adulterous relationships with women. Both are in violation of the Seventh Commandment and therefore they are are unqualified for leadership in the church.

We also do not ordain women as elders or deacons. These positions are reserved for men, according to God's word. This does not mean that women are any less valuable to the church, but it does mean that this is not their roll. A woman's greatest calling is to be a godly wife and mother. This is a lesson that the church needs to hear again and again in our culture today. There is no more noble cause for a woman than to raise godly children in the admonition of the LORD in a strong marriage. For by doing so, she is raising eternal beings.

Presbyterians think their creeds, such as the Westminster Confession of Faith, are equal to Scripture.

False. The confessions and creeds we hold to are taken from Scripture and in no way add to it. We believe that our creeds help us understand what it is that the Bible is saying concerning God and salvation for mankind. If the creed differs from Scripture, we throw it out. That is why the Westminster Confession of Faith is so valuable. It has been in existence since the 1640s and still is holding true.

As for other churches, even churches that say, "No creed but the bible," they all have creeds of one kind or another. For instance, the statement "no creed but the Bible," is in itself a creed. The word creed is taken from the Latin word "creedo," which means "I believe." A creed is simply a statement of what it is that we believe is true in the Bible.

All churches, all denominations and all religions have creeds. The question then becomes: what is your creed? What is it that you believe? Even atheists have creeds.

Those of us who are in the PCA, and that hold to the Westminster Confession of Faith are simply stating what it is that we believe. We are open and upfront about our beliefs because anyone can find information on our creed. If you would like to read it... then click here.

Presbyterians believe anyone from a different denomination is going to hell.

Again, this is not true. We believe that only those who are chosen before the foundations of the world, who come to know Christ by faith (the promise of Christ in the OT), will be saved and have their names written in the Lambs Book of Life. This means that anyone who trusts in Christ for salvation by faith, is a believer and will be saved on the Last Day.

Salvation does cross denominational lines. However, we do not believe that it crosses religious lines. Only those who are Christians will be saved, for there is no other name under heaven by whom men can be saved (Acts 4:12).

Presbyterians do not believe it is necessary to evangelize or send missionaries overseas since they believe in the doctrine of election.
Well, I need to finish this later because I have to go home and pick up my wife, so that she can come up to the church and meet with the Evangelism Explosion team. They are going out to witness to the lost...
Presbyterians, because they believe in God's sovereignty, don't believe it is necessary to pray, since God knows everything and had already decreed all things before the foundations of the world.
Again, I will have to answer this one at a later date. While my wife is out evangelizing, I have to lead the prayer meeting.
