Home School Activities at Grace PCA:

image

Grace PCA opens its doors to local homeschoolers for various activities during the week. Our central location and relatively small size make for an ideal gathering spot for homeschoolers. We host writing classes that run from September through May. They are open to 4 levels (ages 5th grade and up) and use curriculum from the IEW (Institute for Excellence in Writing). They are taught by Grace member Cynthia George (MAT English Education). For more information, call Cindy at 803-643-9826.

We also host co-op classes on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays, from 2:30-4:00, also from September through May. These classes are open to all age levels. There is no formal curriculum, rather individual teachers choose their methods. The goals are to encourage socialization and working in groups. Contact Cynthia George (803-643-9826) or Wendy Hoyle (803-593-3991) for more information.

Other homeschool activities at Grace are under the umbrella of the support group, AAHE (Aiken Area Home Educators). A statement of faith is required to join. Contact Wendy Hoyle (803-593-3991) president, or Debbie Sides (803-642-6362) secretary/treasurer.

Recent homeschool activities hosted at Grace have been MathCounts competition practice group, the Yearbook and Homeschool Prom committees, a Geography Bee, a Future City competition planning group, the PSAT exam, and an AAHE Open House and book sale. In the past we've had a wood-carving class, art classes, and guitar lessons. Next year we hope to have a high school chemistry or biology lab. We would love to have other talents as well!
